The process is accelerating and the demand is increasing in tissue and organ transplants from pigs to humans.
In 2021, surgeons transplanted genetically modified pig kidneys into two legally dead people, and the kidneys worked successfully for 54 hours of the test. In addition, after the heart transplant, which took place in January this year, the patient lived for 2 months, which was longer than expected.
Ever since doctors have shown that it is possible to transplant pig organs into humans, researchers have repeatedly called for the United States to allow regulatory clinical trials to extensively test such procedures in humans.
